Napa County Historical Society


The Napa County Historical Society will be closed Friday, July 3rd in observance of Independence Day.

Our mission:
The Napa County Historical Society is a research, archival and educational organization dedicated to the discovery, preservation and presentation of the people and history of Napa County, and its place in California History. Our purpose is to keep history alive through historical research, publications and educational activities. The Society is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization supported by membership dues, donations and volunteers.
Old Bale Mill
The County's first library, the Goodman Library, currently houses the Society's Research Library, changing exhibition gallery, Victorian tea room and administrative offices. The Society is open Tuesday-Saturday, Noon- 4 p.m.

The Jess Doud Memorial Room hosts several exhibitions each year. Locally Grown, Globally Known, curated by Christine Parker, J Singh and Bea Purdy (and sponsored by Lightworks Photography) is the Society's current exhibition. Locally Grown, Globally Known displays photographs from the Society's archives to explain the ways Napa is known worldwide. Admission is free, although donations are greatly appreciated.


The Research Library is open Tuesday-Thursday, Noon - 4 p.m. The extensive Research Library has photographs, books, city directories, original unpublished manuscripts, maps, architectural plans, yearbooks and documents pertaining to the history of Napa County and its residents. The Research Library is staffed by a team of volunteers who are available to answer questions and conduct research.
